The Mask Report
How does the medias shape the way you see the world?
Media bias is the bias or perceived bias of journalists and news producers within the mass media in the selection of events and stories that are reported and how they are covered. (Wikipedia). That is to say, the media tend to deliver the content in line with their belief, which limits the diversity of the information that the audience received. As a result, the audience is easily reading the story in merely single perspective, which deepen the gap between people with different values.
-Literature review: According to ebonie ledbeeter’s article, it is unfair to hold journalist to an unattainable standard of fairness. Because a journalist is human, the bias will exist. As a result, the audience plays an important role in the issue. The audience should aware of the issue and change their behavior of receiving information.
Solution and Design:
The aim of the platform is to let people aware of the bias of information they used to receive. The platform will allow users to choose medias they believe in the beginning, and select the specific topic or date they are interested in. And then the platform will show users all the news related to their interest. The visual of the news reported from the media user belief will be clean, but the visual of news reported from the media they don’t believe will be crossed out or mosaic. By showing the strong visual contrast, I hope users are able to aware of how media shape the way they see the world.
